加拿大技术移民的申请，很多情况下，需要对申请人的职业进行定位，这就会用到NOC分类表。
NOC是National Occupational Classification的缩写，是指加拿大国家职业分类系统(内容含有职业分类、技能水平、岗位抬头、工作职责等)。它制定的目的是使得社会各个层次的人都能够很容易的对各行各业的情况更好的了解。NOC是加拿大公民寻找工作的工具，也是移民签证和工作签证发放的基础性依据文件。
众所周知，加拿大允许移民的职业有几百种之多，移民官不可能对所有的行业都了如指掌，在审查申请人的材料以及面谈时，移民官就是对照NOC定义来判断申请人的工作职业的，因此NOC职业定义是办理移民过程当中重要的文件。
NOC主要分类方法如下:
(一)按技能水平(skill level)划分：
加拿大国家职业分类系统(NOC)按照加拿大职业的技能水平(Skill Level)分为 5 级(0,A,B,C,D)，具体的5级技能水平主要按照对从业者的教育和培训要求进行划分。从移民角度出发，NOC主要分为高级技术管理类职业，就是常说的0、A、B类，以及低级技术类职业，即C、D类。下面我们一项一项的解释：
1.SKILL LEVEL 0：各行各业的管理职业(Management Occupations )即0类：又称管理类职业，具体表现可以是：主管，经理，部门负责人等从事管理事务的职位。该职业类要求的教育、语言水平最高。所以在移民时，如果职业定位为O类，那么就要求申请人具有相当高的英、法语水平，而且教育水平至少在本科以上。
2.SKILL LEVEL A：需要大学教育的职业(Occupations usually require university education)即A类：又称专业学术职业类，具体表现可以是：律师，审计师，牙医等从事需要专业学识学习的职位。该职业按照不同的性质，对语言要求有所不同。教育一般要求会在本科或以上。
3.SKILL LEVEL B：需要大专以上学历或学徒训练的职业(Occupations usually require college education or apprenticeship training)即B类：又称技术类职业，具体表现可以是：测绘员，水电工，律师助理，物流文员等需要进行专业培训的职位。该职业分类需要的语言和教育要求较低。一般要求专上程度的教育或者相关技术培训学校即可。
4.SKILL LEVEL C：需要中学和/或具体职业培训的职业(Occupations usually require secondary school and/or occupation-specific training0)即C类;
5.SKILL LEVEL D：通常需要在职培训的职业(On-the-job training is usually provided for occupations)即D类; C和D类：不需要过多专业技术类的工作，具体表现可以是：邮递员，前台接待，售货员，帮厨，农民等只需要高中或者初中教育及简单培训的职位。该职位通常是达不到加拿大移民要求的。但是也有例外，比如萨省的雇主担保类移民，因为萨省有一个紧缺行业表，如果你的行业在该表中，虽然是NOC的C、D类的职业，也满足萨省技术移民工作经验的行业要求。
(二)按职业类别(skill type)划分：
加拿大国家职业分类系统(NOC)按照加拿大职业的技能类别(Skill Type)划分为10类，其中0类(管理类)横跨其他所有9类职业类别，该10大类分别是：
